Stereographic projection is known since the antiquity and was originally known as the planisphere projection. It preserves the angles at which curves cross each other but it does not preserve area. स्टिरिओग्रफ़िक मानचित्रण प्रणाली प्राचीन काल से प्रचलित है और इसे प्लैनिस्फियर मानचित्र प्रदर्शन भी कहते है. यह वक्र रेखाओं के प्रतिच्छेदन पर कोणीय मापों को बनाये रखती है पर क्षेत्रफल नहीं.
